Door 222

Loveland, Colorado

Located in the heart of downtown Loveland. Opened in the mid 2000s and makes for a great place to take a date before you go to the Rialto Theater to enjoy a live show. A great vibe greets you with an open ceiling, metal handrail and wooden tables when you enter.  Window seating faces 4th street for a up close view of downtown, and there is  great patio seating when it is warmer. The menu provides a wide variety of meals and starters from bacon wrapped dates to beautiful flank steak specials. But I’m here for the Burger that was voted 2nd Place in “BEST OF LOVELAND 2020” (closely behind Henry’s, see how that burger fared).

We made reservations online when we walked in and were greeted with a friendly staff and seated fairly fast. This place was packed! Like 2019 packed. Once seated it took a little longer to get our drink orders. But our waiter, Robert,  was very friendly and personable. The place was very clean. I will give you that for sure.

This is a burger you build yourself so choose the toppings you like. It is no surprise I went to Bacon and Blue Cheese. Bun was brioche and was over toasted partly burnt on one side. This oversoght did not help the burger overall. The Bacon was overcooked as well, adding to the dry experience here and detracting from the burger flavor big time. The Blue cheese was flat, no real robust flavor like a memorable blue cheese should give you. It could be because the bun and bacon overshadowed the cheese or it.

The actual patty was made with 1/2 lb Angus Beef . Here is where I have a little discrepancy. This was like a 1/4lb thin and not a lot of meat thickness in my opinion, but I checked the menu again and it does say 1/2 lb so we will say it is a skimpy 1/2 lb. The taste of the patty was very good and full of flavor but I did wish it was thicker. I think if they were not so busy in a perfect cooking environment this would have been a much better burger but still need to be thicker. The Fries are true shoestring fries (think matchsticks), one of my favorites,  but it has to been cooked right. If not they come out hard and crunchy instead of crisp outside and soft inside, this is a french fry  that needs to be babied and shown some love. Fries need to be able to pass the fork test (able to stab it with a fork and not have them fling out or not able to stick because they are hard like chips). That being said, there was a generous serving of the fries and most were in good shape. The size of the meal (mostly because of the thickness of meat) was on the small size for the price. I put a lot of faith in the voters of Loveland and really looked forward to this burger – for $16.00 this burger meal really missed the mark. That’s too bad because I had great hope.
