What’s the Deal?

I have high standards and got tired of wasting my nights out on Fort Collins burgers that, really, I could make better at home. You can count on me to judge a burger on the things that matter – from service and presentation to meat and fries, you know what to expect after you read a Burger Mike review. Think I missed the mark or have a great place I should check out? Reach out and let’s connect!

Service

Waiting tables in a busy restaurant is no joke. The entire staff falls into this category and no one is exempt: was my order correct? Did I have to ask for refills? Great service makes me want to come back and try the burger that got away.

Cleanliness

This is kind of a no brainer but also a big part of my equation. I am checking out all parts of the establishment from the silver and glassware to the restrooms. I like to feel secure when eating out and cleanliness does the trick.

Patty Thickness

Don’t let anyone lie to you, thickness matters and thicker is always better. I apply this to all areas of my life and burgers are no exceptions.  I will include this criteria for veggie burgers also – you will hear the alarm for any mushy quinoa burgers, too.

Taste of Patty

While no categories are weighted, this may be my personally most important criteria. On top of seasoning I weigh whether this burger was cooked how I requested and the juiciness of the patty.

Buns

Buns are the undersung heroes of an outstanding burger. I am personally looking for a generous, soft bun with some grilled/ flavored action happening on the inside. Fancy buns such as pretzel and sourdough need not apply.

Fries

The right sidekick changes everything and fries are no exception. My perfect fries are crispy, coated and flavorful. Sweet potato fries can get a thumbs up but potato wedges are too Sunday Dinner for a burger.

Toppings

Above all, I am looking for fresh toppings. Wilty lettuce is an insult to a burger, no room for that here. I am also a big ratio guy and I hate when burgers are drowning in sauce and burgers also lose points when they have stingy toppings.

Size of Meal

Being from Oklahoma, it is hard to shake the whole quantity over quality thing. While I am better than I was, I still very much appreciate leaving the table full. Generous servings are always a plus in my judge book.

Price

A lot goes into providing a memorable burger and I am all about supporting that and honoring the product. That being said, I do not want to drop 75.00 for  3 burgers and drinks. You can count on me to consider the price point when I review a burger.
