The Kitchen

The Woodlands, Texas

I know, I know: when you say Houston hamburgers you need to be very specific. This week we were in The Woodlands, a planned community north of Houston, it was great to hit my old stomping grounds the week, when I was younger I spent 20 years there. And things have changed for sure. I was living there with a population of about 30k now well over 113k. The Woodlands has continued to be developed as perfectly as you can imagine with more upscale shopping and restaurants than you can imagine. My sister recommended The Kitchen and who knows better than the locals?

Back in the day the area where this sits was a swamp, a literal swamp with 4 feet deepwater, gators, full woods and no access. But today it sits in one of the most beautiful places in the world,  surrounded by greenery and trees. Hustle and Bustle of a very upscale professional clientele making the world go round adds to the overall ambience.

COWBOY BURGER

When you walk in you go through the line and  order your meal, cafeteria style. The wait staff was great, friendly, fast and got the order right. The cleanliness was spot on. The burger was served on a fresh brioche bun, soft and toasted just right. The toppings came with very fresh ½  avocado that made it stand tall.Topped with both white and yellow cheddar which worked great together, creating a nice sharp taste while also very creamy.  The meat was their proprietary Gyulais ‘Black Wagyu & Charolais’ Ground Beef Patty (a high end Japanese treatment of beef, learn more here) The burger was smoking flavor full of juscies and grilled just right. The meat was topped with some of the best seasoning I have had in a while. The two full slices of bacon crispy and salty and complemented the mixed greens perfectly.  Crispy jalapeños added nice heat, and the dill pickles wereloaded on. Not to be outdone, the fries were square cut nicely salted and crispy  – just right with a juicy burger. At $14 for the burger and fries you are looking at a reallly well priced meal (especially for The Woodlands), making this one Houston hamburger I can recommend fully.
